A mysterious take-over of CITRUS, the Odessa big national retailer for gadgets

A businessman from Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk) Gennady Korban became co-owner of the Odessa company “ZT-INVEST”, which owns the national chain of gadget stores CITRUS.

According to the Unified State Register of enterprises and organisations of Ukraine (as of March 2, 2021), Grigory Topal and Gennady Korban are indicated as owners of ZT-Invest LLC with 50% shares each (UAH 801.50 thousand). At the same time, the founders of CITRUS Topal and Dmytro Zinchenko are listed as the ultimate beneficiaries. Korban was added to the register as an owner in the place of Zinchenko on February 25, according to Opendatabot data.

However, the press service of CITRUS declared that this information does not fully reflect reality.

The company ZT-INVEST is not a participant in the operating activities of CITRUS and has nothing to do with working capital and material assets. Some of the minor trade marks are indeed owned by ZT-INVEST. But this does not affect the operating activities of the company. The procedure for acquiring a stake in ZT-INVEST was carried out in secret, in violation of legal procedures. The appeal to the judicial authorities was filed on 03/02/2021.

In a recent interview with Liga.tech, Korban had already announced his intention to participate in the development of Citrus as an investor, in particular, to optimize the company’s structure, change its legal address from Odessa to Dnipro, and build a new online platform with one of the founders, Dmitry Zinchenko.

Citrus is the first Ukrainian specialized chain of stores of gadgets and accessories. The company was established in 2000. According to the information on its website, as of March 2021, the network has 63 retail outlets in Kyiv, Dnipro, Odessa, Kharkov, L’viv, Zaporizhia, Poltava, Nikolaev, Cherkassy, Kherson, Chernigov, Kramatorsk (Donetsk region), Izmail and Chornomorsk (both in Odessa region).

Gennady Korban is a millionaire politician, member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish community of Dnipro. He used to be deputy of Igor Kolomoisky, formerly the Governor of the Eastern industrial Dnepropetrovsk region.
